Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.
Ryunosuke Satoru, Japanese Poet (Dates unknown)
Individually, Nakano Kaoru and Lui Hon create works of inspirational beauty, each for the human form and in the context of liberating identity. Through sculptural washi jewellery and fashion with a sense of occasion, each gives form to the extraordinary in the mundane. In collaboration, their creativity swells to an ocean of vision and genius. Perhaps influenced by the tradition of collaboration in the Japanese studio, Lesley Kehoe Galleries sees profound value in discovering and sharing the complementarity of individual interpretations of beauty.
This sharing has now taken place in Melbourne and New York in a series of private appointments with the artists for our local and international clients. Nakano has a long established following in New York, and Asia Week 2014 saw this reinvigorated in the exciting collaboration with Lui Hon and his Winter and Spring collections. The Japan Society benefit during Asia Week was dotted with the Australian-Japan aesthetic of collaboration. ‘New York women are desperate for individual designs’ enthused one of our clients as she went home with an array of Lui Hon outfits enhanced by Nakano’s unique accessories.
