The growing significance of Asia Week New York is attested to by the opening party being held this year in the hallowed halls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In a further testament to the fertile collaboration in America amongst institutions, collectors, galleries and auction houses, Asia Week attracted a record 47 international galleries and $200 million in sales.
Over 600 select invited guests were welcomed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and encouraged to wander the galleries in an after-hours exclusive calm. Curators were on hand to mingle with the guests and the evening was hailed a resounding success. The city is awash with events, exhibitions, seminars and auction sales. Madison Ave was flooded with people intently studying their ‘yellow directories’. It’s nine days of intense learning and fun and, despite the alarming cold this year, a recommended must on the calendar for LKG and all those with a love or curiosity for Asian art.
